CAN BE BETTER

Back in 2015, I started a barista competition called The Barista League. The event was born out of a frustration that a lot of the fun parts of the coffee industry were inaccessible to the average barista.

Working as a barista I was seeing the origin trips, the travel, super expensive training labs, the restaurant collaborations and just thinking: what barista working on minimum wage gets to do any of this?

I wanted to create events for actual baristas - an event that was accessible for someone working a double shift on minimum wage and didn’t have 6 months and $100,000 to spend on a barista competition. This is what spawned The Barista League – a competition where the focus was on bringing people together.

It's ten years later and its time to evolve!  In 2026 we launch a totally new competition format. One designed to meet the demands of the industry for the next 10 years. More creative, more innovative, more fun and importantly – actually exciting to watch.

We are so excited to be able to do these events for you, and to show the world a totally new type of coffee competition (again).  See you at an event somewhere soon.

COMMUNITY

We believe that everyone is equally important and deserves respect and space in our industry. We believe in producing projects that bring our industry together. We aim to positively impact everyone who attends - not just the ‘winners’. We want everyone who participates to leave with exponentially more than what they came with.

ACCESSIBILITY

We believe that making events accessible begins at the core concept and production, not as an afterthought. This means that from the location of the venue and the ticket price through to the team selection process or the website design, we are making deliberate decisions to make the event as accessible as possible for everyone.

SUSTAINABILITY

We believe that events shouldn’t come at the cost of our environment or the communities in which we work. Since 2019, we have been actively tracking and reducing all of our environmental impacts from producing events. We are proud to have been single-use free since 2019 and have been offsetting total carbon emissions since 2021. This is a constant evolution on the journey to producing net positive events.
